#BlackLivesMatter Playlist

Recently, many people have been made aware of the phrase “Black Lives Matter” due to the world-wide public protests against police oppression and brutality. So many black people have lost their lives and freedom while doing things that are very human; such as, walking from the corner store and sitting in a parked car with friends.

It’s not enough to empathize with the families and communities that have experienced these senseless tragedies. It’s time for everyone to stand against injustice.

Throughout history, music has fueled the consciousness of movements. For example, during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, protestors echoed the sentiment of the cause by singing songs; such as, “I Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around” and “We Shall Overcome”.

DJ HiPrayze Radio is taking a stand by playing songs that speak to the #BlackLivesMatter Movement. Listed below are songs that have been included within the #BlackLivesMatter Playlist that will be played frequently to keep this in the forefront of the world collective consciousness.

Our prayer is that the #BlackLivesMatter Movement will change this world for our children, grandchildren, and generations-unborn.

When black lives matter, then all lives truly matter!!!

Tramaine Hawkins – Tramaine is one of the most influential and innovative albums of all time.  The musical arrangements by Walter Hawkins along with the angelic vocal stylings of Lady Tramaine Hawkins changed the course of Gospel Music.  Traditional Gospel Music fans and secular music listeners asked the same question, “Is this Gospel Music?”  In addition to the music, album art caused quite a stir in the Christian Community as some people exclaimed, “There is no way she is saved!  Look at her red, long, painted finger nails!”  Yes, Lady Tramaine made a statement with her music and her look.  This album represented the voice and look of the Modern Christian Woman.

Over and above the innovations and the controversy that this classic album sparked, the spiritual messages conveyed by each featured composition is clear and uncompromised.  Tramaine Hawkins – Tramaine is an album that will never age and will be enjoyed by future generations.

Stay tuned over the next few weeks to explore each of the songs from this classic album.  I promise you that you will not be disappointed.

DJ HiPrayze’s Classic Albums

I started listening to music at a very young age. My earliest memory of falling in love with music, was listening to a song by Gladys Knight & The Pips entitled, I Heard It Through The Grapevine. I was introduced to great music by the adults in my life. My mother introduced me to artists, such as, Gloria Lynne, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, and Shirley Caesar. My uncle introduced me to artists, such as, The Isley Brothers, War, The Rance Allen Group, and Patti LaBelle. My eldest brother introduced me to artists; such as, Stanley Clarke, Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band, Dee Dee Sharp Gamble, and Ramsey Lewis. My cousin introduced me to artists such as, Minnie Riperton, Christopher Cross, Phoebe Snow, and Ronnie Laws. Needless to say, I have been given an awesome education in Music Appreciation.

Out of all the genres of music that I have been introduced to, Gospel Music has been the most influential. At the age of five years, I heard my first Gospel Music recording — Shirley Caesar & The Caesar SingersStranger On The Road. The sound of this song was different from anything else I had ever heard and it left an everlasting impression on my life. As a matter of fact, Gospel Music was so influential that it planted the Seed of Salvation in my heart, which resulted in my giving my life to the Lord at the age of 19.

From time to time, I will be reviewing some of my favorite Gospel Music Albums. These awesome works of art have shaped the course of my life. The songs on the albums I will be featuring have helped me to grow in my Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am so grateful to the artists that have created these masterpieces. I cannot imagine life without this awesome heavenly music.
I hope you stay tuned to experience this great music that inspires and uplifts.

Tramaine Hawkins – *Look At Me

Tramaine

*Look At Me is the first song that opens the listener’s journey through Tramaine Hawkins’ debut solo album entitled Tramaine.

This song expresses the joy that a person experiences when realizing the magnitude of the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The opening lyrics tell the story.

Look at me

I have been set free

All my sins are washed away

My nights turned to day

All because Christ has set me free

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross” (Colossians 2:13 – 15, NIV).

*Look At Me is a timeless song.  Tramaine’s vocals, the instrumentation arrangement of the recording, and lyrics make this song a classic.  If you have heard this song, listen to it again with fresh ears and an open heart.  If you have never heard this song, you are in for a treat.  Purchase a copy of Tramaine Hawkins – Tramaine and experience the journey.

*Look At Me. (1979). On Tramaine [Vinyl recording]. Light Records: Walter Hawkins. (1979)
